Hi Bears,

Here is a Bursary related to the natural environment.  Read on for details!

The Cliff Bennett Nature Bursary is offered annually to assist students who will pursue post-secondary studies in a field related to the natural environment.

One or more bursaries of $1000 will be awarded each year to students from our area.

The application deadline is May 1.

The Bursary is named for Cliff Bennett, a founding member of the MVFN. It was established in 2007 by Cliff’s many friends on his 75th birthday, to honour, with a legacy, his lifelong contribution to nature education. To date over $25,000 has been awarded to 32 students in our area who have gone on to studies at colleges and universities across the country.

To be eligible, a student must

  • Enter a program related to the natural environment at a Canadian post-secondary institution (college, university, or technical institute) in the next academic year.
  • Currently live in Lanark County or West Carleton Ward or attend a school located in these regions or confirm MVFN membership.
  • Submit a complete Bursary application package by May 1, 2026.

The Committee will consider an applicant’s appreciation and experience in issues related to the natural environment. Previous recipients have demonstrated and actively promoted environmental awareness through school projects and volunteering in their communities. Complete selection criteria are provided on the application.

Past winners of the Cliff Bennett Nature Bursary Award have pursued post-secondary studies in ecosystem and resource management, environmental sciences and engineering, marine biology, and zoology. Others have followed their passion in environmental stewardship by studying fish and wildlife management or biotechnology.

Application forms are available at mvfn.ca  https://mvfn.ca/cliff-bennett-nature-bursary/

Take care,

Mrs. Anderson, Mme. Day, and Ms. Shaw

Hello Grads,

The Royal Canadian Legion offers a bursary for students who have parent that are serving or a veteran, or a grandparent who is a member of the Legion.  Students must e finishing grade 12 and pursuing a post-secondary education next year.  There is also a financial qualification which is specified on the application.

The application form is attached.

Please note: The deadline for this Bursary says the application is due by the middle of August but the Legion has requested, if possible, to get them during the spring as students are still in school and have access to their Guidance Counsellor to help with completing the form. The CP Legion Branch also has a set number of bursaries they issue in the year so it is better to send it in, with all necessary documentation, earlier rather than later.

Good luck,

Hello Grads,
With March break just around the corner, you may have some free time to look at scholarships.  Here is a list from Scholar Tree that are available.  The list is long, so try not to get overwhelmed and take a peek at a few at a time.

Note: Not all awards will apply to all students. Students should create a profile on ScholarTree to get a customized list and weekly email reminders of deadlines. Students can use the "Applications Open" filter only to see those scholarships currently accepting applications at the top left of their scholarship list. As a reminder, ScholarTree has always been and will continue to be 100% free to students.

Good luck,
Mrs. Anderson

Hello Grads,

ScholarTree is back for another year of helping graduating students find scholarships. Over the summer, they have added over $2,800,000 in new scholarships to their database.

A handful of the larger scholarships are available right at the start of the school year, so we encourage students to start looking and apply immediately.

Here are a couple of significant scholarships that are available now.  The CPHS Guidance office will be sending out more details about some of these soon.

Have a great day,

Mrs. Anderson, Mme. Day and Ms. Shaw

Hello Graduating Bears,

The guidance office will be sending out Scholarship opportunities on a regular basis.  It will be important to check your emails from Mme. Day, Ms. Shaw and myself and read them fully.  These will also be posted on our school website (give us a few days to update it 🙂 )

https://carletonplace.ucdsb.on.ca/for_students/student_services/bursaries__scholarships___awards

Here is the first of many Scholarship opportunities;  this one is for graduating students who may be thinking about becoming a mechanic.  Please read below and see the attached flyer for more information.

Jake Weitz Memorial Scholarship

In 2025, we awarded $10,000 in scholarships, and we are excited to continue investing in future mechanics across Canada. The Jake Weitz Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to support Canadian High School graduates pursuing a career in the trades, specifically in mechanics.

This scholarship was created to honor my son, Jake Weitz, a young man whose love for mechanics was matched only by his generosity and willingness to help others. We aim to carry his legacy forward by supporting students in the field of mechanics (automotive, heavy duty, agriculture, and aviation mechanics).

Attached to this email is a printable poster-style flyer.

Warmest Regards,

Vanessa Weitz
